Do you ever have those times when you just have no inspiration as to what to make for dinner? Or, maybe you’re feeling flat out lazy? That hit me a couple of days ago and I was just not motivated to cook anything, especially if it might take time and effort. I wanted to make something with hamburger, but I wasn’t in the mood for regular hamburgers. A casserole sounded good, but the only thing that came to mind was tater tot casserole and we were fresh out of tater tots anyway. There was no way I was running to the store solely to buy them. As I stewed and fussed about it for a bit, an idea hit me. What if I brown some hamburger and combine it with barbecue sauce and shredded cheese? I could then wrap it in Pillsbury croissant dough (fortunately, a can was already sitting in my fridge), essentially making medium-sized savory turnovers, and bake them in the oven until golden brown. Brilliant and easy! How would they taste, though? As it turns out, great!

They baked up easily turning a nice, slightly-crispy golden brown. The dough crimps held together well and no filling spilling out. They had a unique sweet and sour flavor; sweet from the barbecue sauce and slightly sour from the croissant dough and cheese. Really a tasty blend. The turnovers refrigerated well and reheated nicely in the microwave so we could eat them for a quick snack the next day.

And, we finished off the night with these delicious, chocolatey haystacks!
